Engineered Timber
Engineered Softwood
Softwood is widely used in construction, joinery, furniture, garden products and other applications and has proven to be a successful and competitive material for many centuries. However, in recent years it has become apparent that engineering this versatile raw-material can improve and enhance its characteristics and performance. Engineering the timber at source can provide the perfect solution by eliminating unwanted natural characteristics, such as knots or splits.
A good example of this is the timber window industry which has embraced the use of engineered softwood, appreciating the benefits that a bespoke material can offer. Knotless, finger-jointed and laminated window scantlings offer greater stability, better painting qualities, reduced wastage and better manufacturing productivity. This produces a better end product and almost eliminates the need for ongoing remedial work after installation. This is just one example of the successful use of engineered softwood.
Our advantage in this sector lies in our ability to combine the specific needs of a UK window manufacturer with the individual strengths of a selected supplier.
Production capability
We are working closely with specialist European sawmills and manufactures, using modern high tech equipment to provide fit for purpose products for a variety of end uses. Using computer controlled camera grading equipment, it is possible to grade raw material to suit the customer's end use perfectly. We are able to supply solid components, precision cut to length and machined to profile. Timber can be finger jointed in length and laminated in thickness and width. Further processes such as drilling, notching and shaping can also be added.
Applications
We have many years of experience working closely with our customers to help find the best solution to their softwood requirements. Engineered timber is widely used in the manufacture of stair strings, stair treads, spindles and newel posts. It is used in windows, doors and door frames, playground equipment, gates, bed components and numerous other products.
Sustainability
All of our Softwood is sourced from well managed sustainable forest and comes with full PEFC or FSC chain of custody certification.
